Beyond Color Matching
It's very important to coordinate colors with each other. We like to start by creating a color palette by placing samples on a sheet together. By doing this it makes it easier to see if there is any color that doesn't seem to work well with the others. It's not really about matching colors, but coordinating them with each other to create a look or attitude. That being said, one color can drastically affect other colors, That's why it is so important to look at the colors together.
Trim and ceiling colors can also affect your end result. By choosing a clean crisp white for ceilings and trim, the room will take on a very sharp tailored look. On the other hand, using a soft white on ceilings and trim creates a cozy, more relaxed look. Which one is best for you? That depends on your personality and where I come in. I like to think of myself as a color therapist. In a few short minutes I can ask you a few questions and eliminate all of the chaos and confusion of choosing a color.
What about a color on the ceiling? The ceiling is a large blank canvas, uninterrupted by any of the objects that can distract you. I feel that ceiling color is best used when crown molding is present. The addition of the ceiling color makes the crown molding stand out and adds another level of detail otherwise overlooked. Again, it's not for everyone, but let's find out if it's for you.
